This week’s devotion is based off of Pastor Tim’s sermon “Don’t Be Crabby, Be Happy”!
Crabs are known for snapping, fighting back, and even pulling each other down when one tries to get out of the basket. If we’re honest, that sounds a lot like how people can act sometimes too. When frustration rises, when stress builds, when inconvenience hits, it becomes very easy to get “crabby.”
But Scripture gives us a better way.
Proverbs 17:22 says, *“A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.”*
That verse reminds us that Joy is strength. Joy is health to the soul. Joy is medicine.
So many people live with constant tension, irritation, and heaviness, but God never intended His people to live drained and defeated. He wants us to live filled with His joy. That does not mean life is always easy. It means we do not have to let every situation dictate our attitude.
Sometimes the smallest things can steal the biggest amount of peace if we let them. A minor inconvenience can become a major distraction. A frustrating moment can shape an entire day. But when we stop and remember the goodness of God, everything begins to shift.
A merry heart does good like medicine. That means joy can minister to you in places of frustration. Joy helps your heart breathe again. Joy gives you perspective. Joy reminds you that God is still faithful, even in the middle of ordinary life.
Reflection Questions:
How have you been responding to pressure lately?
Have little frustrations been stealing your peace?
What helps stir joy in your heart?
You do not have to surrender your peace to irritation. God has given you access to joy that is stronger than your mood and greater than your circumstances.
