If you have ever seen a basket of crabs, you will notice when one crab tries to rise, the others often pull it back down.
That is not how the body of Christ should operate.
Philippians 2:3 tells us to esteem others above ourselves.
Romans 14:19 says to pursue what makes for peace and mutual edification.
Romans 15:2 reminds us to help others do what is right and build them up.
God has not called us to drag people down into our discouragement, jealousy, criticism, or negativity. He has called us to lift others up.
That means encouraging one another. Celebrating when others are blessed. Rejoicing with those who rejoice. Speaking strength instead of criticism. Helping people move forward instead of secretly resenting their growth.
A crabby spirit pulls down. A Christlike spirit builds up.
When we walk in humility, joy, and love, we become people others can breathe around. We become safe places. We become life-givers. We become representatives of Jesus in the way we speak, serve, and respond.
The world already knows how to tear people down. The church should know how to build them up!
Reflection Questions:
Do your words lift people higher or leave them heavier?
Is there any jealousy or criticism you need to surrender to the Lord?
Who can you intentionally encourage today?
God can use your life to strengthen others. You were not created to pull people down. You were created to reflect Jesus and carry His encouragement.
