When God spoke to Elijah in 1 Kings 17, He told him to go to the brook Cherith and said, “I have commanded the ravens to feed you there” (1 Kings 17:4).
That word is so powerful: THERE.
The ravens were not assigned to find Elijah anywhere he pleased. The provision was attached to the place of obedience. When Elijah went where God told him to go, he found the supply of heaven waiting on him.
Later, when the brook dried up, God spoke again and sent Elijah to Zarephath, where a widow would sustain him. Again, there was another there. Another place of provision. Another place where God had already gone ahead.
This is such an encouragement for us. Sometimes when a brook dries up in our lives, we panic. But a dried brook does not mean God has failed. It may simply mean He is moving you to your next place called there.
God knows how to provide in unexpected ways. Ravens can feed you. Widows can sustain you. Flour can multiply. Oil can keep flowing. What matters is not how unusual the method is — what matters is whether God spoke and we obey!
Where God guides, He provides!
1 Kings 17:4 “I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”
1 Kings 17:9 “I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”
Reflection Questions:
Is there an old place I have stayed in after it dried up?
Am I willing to trust God’s provision, even if it comes in an unexpected way?
What new “there” might God be leading me toward?
God has already prepared provision ahead of your obedience. He never sends you somewhere empty-handed. Trust Him and move when He says move.
